I'm learning about the importance of knowing your heart rate during rest (and during exercise).
Your heart doesn't lie! Believe it or not, but your heart can tell you how fit you are.
"Normal resting heart rate is usually 60-80 bpm (beats per minute) and can be much lower" if you are more consistent in working out.
The best time to find out your Resting Heart Rate (RHR) is as soon as you wake up.
Ok, now to find you Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) subtract your age from 220.
For example, someone age 20, their heart rate is:
220 - 20 = 200
Now, your Heart Rate Reserve (HRR) is where you want to train, where you want your heart rate to be for efficient exercise. How do you know where you heart should be?
Equation:
MHR - RHR = HRR
"Trained athletes can achieve 4-5x their RHR while untrained individuals only reach 2-3x RHR."
